Located
in northwestern Greene County-the fabled "land of Rip Van Winkle"-the
Town of Windham is a fertile mountain valley carved by the Batavia Kill
through rugged mountain peaks, among which are some of the highest
summits in the entire Catskill Mountain range. Settled shortly after
the American Revolution, the Town of Windham is steeped in history and
filled with architectural treasures.
NYS
Route 23 runs right through this valley connecting the Town of Windham
with the NYS Thruway to the east and Oneonta, Cooperstown , and New
York 's interior to the west. The future of the Town of Windham's
scenic beauty and natural environment is assured by its inclusion
within the Catskill State Park and the New York City Watershed, but its
accessibility is also assured as a viable place to live, work, and play
in the great northern Catskills, just one hour from Albany or Kingston,
and only two and half hours from New York City.
Two
championship golf courses, a downhill ski and snowboard resort, and a
recreational lake are but a few of the outdoor sports attractions,
while a chamber music series, art galleries, festivals and fairs
enhance the cultural scene. A central K-12 school, an active town
library, lively civic organizations, a diversity of houses of worship,
and a responsive town government complete the scene, providing a
vibrant and well-balanced community infrastructure.
