The Mountaintop Gallery of the Greene County Council on the Arts is just one of several arts showcases in the Town of Windham , and new ones crop up each year as Windham 's arts community continues to expand. Avant-garde photography and abstract paintings are showcased, as well as more traditional styles, some of which show the influence of the Hudson River School of Landscape Painting, which first put the northern Catskills at the forefront of the American art scene over 150 years ago. Plans are underway to rehabilitate the Sugar Maples Resort in Maplecrest and convert it into an arts center with workshops, galleries, and performing arts facilities.
